GIFT City recognised with ISO 14001:2015 for environmental standards

The ISO 14001 certification is a global standard for organisations that integrate environmentally responsible practices into their operations.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India’s first operational smart city and the country’s inaugural International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), has received the ISO 14001:2015 certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS). The certification, awarded by Bureau Veritas, an internationally recognised body, reflects GIFT City’s dedication to sustainable urban development and environmental management.

The ISO 14001 certification is a global standard for organisations that integrate environmentally responsible practices into their operations. This recognition highlights GIFT City’s approach to reducing its environmental impact across planning, construction, operations, and maintenance. GIFT City aims to set an example as a financial hub that supports sustainability while promoting business growth.

Tapan Ray, MD & Group CEO of GIFT City, said, “Achieving the ISO 14001 certification reflects GIFT City’s commitment to building a finance and technology hub with sustainability at its core. By embedding global environmental standards into our operations, we are not only ensuring compliance but also supporting responsible growth that aligns with international environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.”

As India’s first operational smart city, GIFT City has introduced eco-friendly innovations, including the District Cooling System, Automated Waste Collection, and a Utility Tunnel—initiatives that set new standards for sustainable urban development in India. These innovations support GIFT City’s goal of balancing business expansion with environmental responsibility.

GIFT City is increasingly becoming a destination for global financial institutions, fintech companies, and multinational corporations. The ISO 14001 certification is expected to boost investor confidence, attract environmentally aware businesses, and reinforce its standing as a key financial hub.

With the Indian government focusing on green infrastructure and sustainable urban growth, GIFT City’s achievement aligns with the wider trend of incorporating ESG principles into India’s business landscape. This certification strengthens GIFT City’s position as a model for sustainable financial centres globally.
