Episode 14 | Dr N K Venkataramana, Founder-Chairman, Brains Super Speciality Hospital

Creating awareness about pollution and hygiene is a key objective, according to Dr N K Venkatramana, Founder-Chairman of Brains Super Speciality Hospital. He emphasises that such awareness can significantly influence bodily health, immunity, infection control, brain function, and even overall productivity, including man-hours and individual performance. We publish a magazine called Brainwise with several articles emphasising the various factors that influence brain and mind health and how it can impact life and society at large.

Climate Change and Brain Health

Dr Venkatramana says that brain experts are more and more realising that brain wellness is related to environmental pollution and a lot of the radiation that’s happening because the ozone layer is missing in the world. Exposure to abnormal weather conditions, sudden changes in the weather, and unexpected natural calamities contribute to both mental health as well as brain health in general.

He explains that the brain and mind cannot be separated; one influences the other. He adds that the toxins in air and the pollution also can increase the diseases like Alzheimer’s, particularly dementia and Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, it is important that we keep our natural environment very clean and hygienic as well as our surroundings in a better condition, as this is very important so that it can help in good health.

Factors Impacting Brain Health

Dr Venkatramana explains that brain is a crown jewel and a marvel in our creation. It has got tremendous potential and we are unable to use its complete potential probably because most people are not aware of it, leave alone using it.  He suggests that cultivating discipline, a healthy lifestyle, and emotional well-being—along with regular physical activity, the development of good habits from childhood, proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and engaging in activities like listening to music—can enhance brain function. He also emphasises the importance of avoiding multitasking.

Music Therapy

Dr Venkatramana describes music therapy as beautiful because he loves music, and music has a tremendous potential capability, not only on the brain, body and the mind, but also on the universe. He says that once you get engrossed, you are in a different world altogether, and that kind of relaxation is as good as sleeping for hours and getting refreshed. Your memory can get enhanced, your focus and attention can be enhanced, your efficiency can enhance, your energy reserves can enhance, and you can become happy, you know, by unwinding. With all that, your energy, your capacity, your efficiency and the way the brain functions can be totally at a different level.
