Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the four-day Bharat Renewable Energy Summit in New Delhi, presenting clean energy as both a way to strengthen India’s energy security and an opportunity to create jobs, attract investment and support households.
Held alongside the 9th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the 4th Conference on Green Hydrogen, the summit brought together innovators, schoolchildren and international delegates. Modi said recent energy shocks had shown how closely energy security is tied to economic stability. India’s clean-energy investments over the past decade, he said, had helped the country manage global pressures while sustaining growth.
The next challenge, he suggested, is to make that progress felt beyond power generation. He urged states to learn from one another and encourage healthy competition. That shift could bring economic benefits as well as cleaner energy, Modi said. Green jobs are already being created in manufacturing, installation, servicing and transport, with further employment expected as capacity grows. Modi added, India to add 500 GW of new non-fossil fuel capacity over the next 10 years
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also highlighted India’s investment landscape and its focus on renewable energy, self-reliance and innovation.
Reflecting on India’s international cooperation and invoking the spirit of “One World, One Family”, Modi spoke about the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which was established to promote collaboration on solar energy. ISA proposed a US$200 million Africa Solar Facility to help countries access the funding, technology and expertise needed to develop renewable energy. Modi also released the ISA publication- Ease of Doing Solar 2026 at the summit.
With the coming decade critical to climate goals, he called on countries and regions to work together towards a clean, green and secure future.
The summit’s theme is: Invest, Innovate, Inspire. Organisers expect participation from more than 130 countries, with over 400 exhibitors, 75,000 participants, 80 curated sessions, 500 featured speakers and 25 knowledge partners.
