Nestlé India has opened a new Distribution Centre (DC) in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. This DC reflects the company’s view that technology plays a key role in progress. It is the first Nestlé India DC to use a Digital Twin — a planning tool that allows virtual simulation of warehouse scenarios, supporting planning and decision-making.

The DC includes AI-enabled CCTV, an Operations Command Hub, a digital rack inspection system, and material handling equipment with sensors.

With around 20,000 pallet positions and a cold room for chocolate storage, the facility is one of the larger logistics sites in the company’s network. Built in seven months, it includes a repacking centre and India’s first shuttle racking system, which is designed to improve use of space. The entire DC runs without paper, using digital systems.

Varun Gupta, Head of Supply Chain, Nestlé India, said, “Efficiency, agility, safety and sustainability are integral to our value chain. These elements are achieved through a perfect ‘symphony’ of product and information flow.”

He added, “In line with our commitment to Net Zero goals, 25% of our cargo on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route are now powered by alternate fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing efficiency. Our logistics team has launched an ‘Operations Command Hub’ and a ‘Logistics Operations Competence Center’ to further the integration of sustainability agenda in our logistics.”

This project is part of Nestlé India’s ongoing work with its logistics partners. The company plans to continue increasing the use of alternate fuel vehicles on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route.
