When COP30 opened last week in Brazil, the highlights included the absence of a US delegation. While official delegations of India and China are in full attendance, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping were also absent at the inaugural.

These are not the only factors likely to influence the outcome of the conference marked by more than 50,000 registrations.
