Hindustan Power, under the leadership of Chairman Ratul Puri, has significantly strengthened its renewable energy footprint in 2025 by securing close to 1 GW of solar power projects alongside more than 750 MWh of energy storage capacity across multiple states. The expansion marks a decisive step towards the company’s stated ambition of building a 5 GW integrated energy portfolio by 2028.
The newly awarded projects span standalone solar installations as well as hybrid systems combining photovoltaic generation with battery energy storage. This portfolio expansion reflects the growing emphasis by policymakers and utilities on pairing renewable power with storage solutions to improve grid stability and ensure reliable electricity supply as renewable penetration rises.
A key milestone during the year was the signing of a long-term power purchase agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for a 435 MWp solar project. The project will be developed under a 25-year agreement, supporting the state’s clean energy targets while offering long-term tariff certainty.
Further strengthening its presence in inter-state renewable markets, Hindustan Power secured an ISTS-connected project from SJVN Limited. The project involves the installation of 200 MWp of solar generation capacity alongside more than 250 MWh of battery storage, aligning with national efforts to integrate dispatchable renewable power into the grid.
In Bihar, the company achieved another notable win by signing a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with the Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited. The agreement covers a 120 MWh standalone battery storage project distributed across three substations and will be implemented under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model. The project is expected to enhance grid resilience and support peak demand management in the state.
Adding to this momentum, Hindustan Power recently secured a major ISTS-connected project from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Awarded through a competitive bidding and e-reverse auction process, the project includes 150 MW of contracted capacity, supported by approximately 300 MWp of solar generation and 360 MWh of battery storage. This award further consolidates the company’s growing capabilities in large-scale renewable and storage deployments.
Commenting on the year’s achievements, Mr. Ratul Puri said the integration of renewable generation with advanced storage technologies is critical for building flexible and reliable power systems. He noted that such projects strengthen state grids while accelerating India’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future.
With these developments, Hindustan Power has reinforced its position as a key participant in India’s evolving clean energy landscape, contributing to national energy security, grid modernisation, and long-term decarbonisation goals.
