Access to clean and safe sanitation is a basic necessity for anyone who spends long hours working on the road. Marking World Toilet Day, Uber has announced a new partnership with Sulabh International, a leading organisation in sanitation and social reform, to ensure that its driver-partners can access reliable hygiene facilities across India without any cost.

Through this collaboration, Uber drivers can now use Sulabh-operated public toilets free of charge in nine major cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. This initiative aligns with Uber’s ongoing effort to improve on-road working conditions and supports national priorities under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which aims to advance cleanliness, public health, and dignified sanitation for all.

A central focus of the partnership is improving the experience of women driver-partners, who often face greater challenges in finding safe and hygienic facilities while navigating long routes. To address this, 50 Sulabh public toilet complexes will be equipped with sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators. These installations will provide free sanitary products and a clean, secure way to dispose of them, ensuring that menstrual hygiene needs are met consistently and with dignity. By strengthening menstrual hygiene support, Uber aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women working in mobility services.

To access these benefits, Uber drivers simply need to present their official Uber registration ID, available on the driver app, at any participating Sulabh facility. All locations under this partnership are maintained directly by Sulabh International, ensuring that drivers can rely on clean surroundings, regular upkeep, and essential sanitation supplies. Sulabh’s long-established expertise in managing public toilet infrastructure adds strong assurance of quality and reliability.

For Uber, the initiative reflects its broader commitment to elevating the everyday experience of the people who move India. Drivers play a vital role in keeping cities connected, and access to safe sanitation significantly impacts their wellbeing, productivity, and comfort during long working hours. Providing free access to hygienic facilities is a meaningful step in reducing the daily challenges drivers may face and in supporting their overall health and dignity at work.

Sulabh International brings decades of leadership in sanitation reform, operating thousands of clean and affordable public toilets across the country. Its community-first approach and proven maintenance systems make it a trusted partner for improving public health outcomes and building awareness about safe sanitation practices.

Together, Uber and Sulabh International aim to make safe sanitation a basic right rather than a privilege for those who rely on the road for their livelihood. By combining Uber’s reach with Sulabh’s sanitation expertise, the partnership represents a practical and impactful effort to create safer, more dignified, and more inclusive working conditions for driver-partners across India.
