Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless-steel manufacturer, has achieved a landmark milestone in global sustainability rankings, securing an ESG score of 78 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for FY25. This places the company among the top 5% of steel companies worldwide, ranking 4th in the steel sector and 1st in the stainless steel sector globally.

The company’s performance marks a significant improvement from its FY24 score of 60, reflecting Jindal Stainless’ accelerated transition towards sustainability-driven growth, transparency, and long-term value creation.

Outstanding ESG performance

Jindal Stainless excelled across all three ESG dimensions:

  • Environmental: 83
  • Social: 73
  • Governance & Economic: 76

These scores far exceed the global steel industry averages of 37, 35, and 36 respectively. Additionally, the company achieved a 97% data availability rate and a perfect score of 100 in transparency & reporting, underscoring its commitment to accountability and ethical business practices.

Golden peacock award for sustainability

In addition to the DJSI recognition, Jindal Stainless became the sole steel sector recipient of the prestigious Golden Peacock Award for Sustainability (GPAS) FY25, highlighting its leadership in integrating sustainability across operations, including energy efficiency, decarbonisation, water and waste management, biodiversity, occupational health and safety, and community development initiatives.

Jindal Stainless’ Managing Director, Abhyuday Jindal, stated that securing a top global position in the DJSI-modelled ESG rankings was a proud moment for the company, reflecting its continuous commitment to responsible growth. He noted that sustainability at Jindal Stainless is not driven by targets alone but is embedded in everyday actions and reinforced by stakeholder trust, strengthening the company’s resolve to achieve its Vision 2030 goals.

Chief Sustainability Officer Kalyan Bhattacherjee explained that the company’s ESG score reflects the deep integration of sustainability across operations, from climate strategy and energy efficiency to stakeholder engagement and supply chain digitisation. He emphasised that these efforts have enabled Jindal Stainless to set new global benchmarks for sustainable materials.

Sustainability achievements FY25

In FY25, Jindal Stainless’ sustainability initiatives led to a 14% year-on-year reduction in GHG emissions, supported by projects such as Odisha’s largest captive solar plant, energy-efficiency upgrades, and community programmes in education, healthcare, and skill development.
